Question: Wouldn't you say that those who "play the race card" are showing themselves to be racist?
Question: What do you or DiversityInc think about the use of the word "minority"? In my personal life, I have begun to use the term "people of color" to represent anyone non-white. I find the word "minority" offensive and degrading to the people it represents, regardless of race. But more so because the word is originally a math term meaning "the smaller part or number; a number, part, or amount forming less than half of the whole."
Question: Do whites realize that the majority of blacks are reminded on a daily basis about the color of their skin and how that color may have some effect on the outcome of their day? Do whites even think about their skin color, other than trying to tan it?
Question: Do you think white men are biased in regards to hiring white females to fill positions and meet minority hiring goals in corporations?
Question: Since you are aware of your white privilege, how has your walk in life changed? When you are in situations where it is clear that your whiteness has availed you a benefit, do you do anything differently?
Question: I've had employees ask, "Why is it OK to have executive incentives or mentor programs in place to help minorities and women, but none for the rest of us?"
Question: In the black community, as in others, we still struggle with complexion. It is believed that light-skinned black people get more privileges than blacks with darker complexions. Of course those perceptions come from the history of slavery in this country. Do white people think about a person's complexion or even care? Do they make decisions based on whether the person is light-skinned or dark-skinned? In the back of my mind, I've always worried that they may be afraid that I'm related to them or something and that's what makes them hesitate to select me for a job or promotion. These are burning questions for me.
Question: What would you say are the top five or six main issues with regard to diversity in organizations?
Question: I need to ask if it's appropriate to call you the Straight White Guy. Because my question involves the minority that often dares not speak its name in corporate America: the LGBT employee. In the eyes of Straight White Guys, are gay employees really Tier One minorities? I mean, we're not easily counted, the government doesn't require any accounting of us, and I've heard we inspire a certain "ick factor" in SWGs. Your observations, please?
Question: It appears that you are familiar with the ways that racism, white privilege and institutionalized oppression play out in the wide world. Do you think that if you were a person of color you would be getting the type of airspace, publicity that you are getting now? How will you utilize your power and position for good, to eliminate bias and allow the voices of the oppressed and people of color be validated and heard by the larger white masses?
Question: Do you think dreadlocks should be accepted in corporate America?
Question: Why do you push "incentive-backed diversity goals"? Isn't "incentive-backed diversity goals" simply another way to describe paying, or even bribing, execs to promote more women and minorities? And if you're going to pay more to those who promote more women and minorities, why not also pay more, directly, to women and minorities, and bypass the "middlepersons"?
Question: Why is it that when white people tell a minority joke, they all think it's really funny, but when a minority tells a white joke right after they finished their minority joke, they don't think it is funny ... it seem to me that can't take it. Is that true?
Question: In a previous question you talked about whites being a minority in 2050. Will there be a redistribution of wealth and power by 2050 so that there is equitable wealth and power among all groups? Or is the issue of diversity management in 2050 really about the white minority managing a non-white majority?
Question: What's your opinion on employee networks/affinity groups?
Question: Do you feel entitled to success and position just because you are white? Do your friends generally feel entitled? Do you feel that white men are smarter than black men and white people smarter than blacks, as a whole? When a white man, in general, competes with a black man for a job, does the white man automatically think that he is a better candidate? Just wanted to know!
Question: Have you ever used a racial slur or laughed at a racial joke?
Question: When I apply for a job, should I put my ethnicity? Especially in places like California that don't have affimative-action policies? When I write my race, is this hurting my chances to find a job? I have an engineering degree, with good grades, and 8 years' experience, but I can't find a job. I wonder if it is because of my race.
Question: Why do white people considered themselves "unraced" but think everyone else is ... AND ... what can I do as a minority to counteract that without coming off with a "chip on my shoulder"?
Question: See now, that's the problem: I always tell people, 'You're not "White"! You're: Irish, Italian, German, Polish, Scottish, Czech, Russian, etc., etc. -- something! So, please don't disrespect your ancestors and your heritage!' So, Mr. Visconti, what are YOU? I'd love to hear wonderful and fascinating things about your heritage. Let's all share!
Question: Your surname seems of possible Italian descent as is mine, but I am of Southern Italian extraction. I believe that Theodore Roosevelt once issued an executive order declaring that we Southern Italians are actually black as part of a miscegenation ruling. Are we really white?
